Prepare a shaker with ice. next add a splash of vermouth, when i say splash i mean a tiny tiny bit, could even just coat the glass with it and dump it out. next add enough vodka to fill the martitni glass (one of those tal slender looking ones). put top on shaker and shake, next strain into martini glass. add olives to taste

We have to advocate a mister. Get a mister for your vermouth. It's worth the $20 or whatever. You don't waste vermouth OR get an assy martini. ;)
