Booze
1 part Lager
1 part Stout
Directions
Pour an Imperial Pint Glass (20 oz, tuliped) half full with any ale. Usually Bass, but Smithwick's makes a creamier "All Irish Balck and Tan". Use a bar spoon to carefully pour the rest of the glass full of any stout, but Guinness is best and preferred by 10 out of 10 Irishmen. For best results serve with a shot of any Irish Whiskey Cordial. Tullamore Dew and Irish Mist work well.

Black and Tan by jacob
Grab a tall beer glass, the bigger the better. Fill it half way with the lager, then slowly pour in the stout to get the layered effect. Many people like to use a spoon to pour the stout over. Good luck!

bubble Not to be a stickler (b/c this recipe is otherwise perfect), but the "Booze" list needs to be changed to reflect the use of ale instead of lager. Just so those with the proper ingredients in their bar will know they should make this delicious drink. jburns (240 days ago)
bubble Ummm, sorry, this is not a Black and Tan. I work at an Authentic Irish Pub and Black and Tan's are made with Stout and Ale. Stout and Lager is not a drink. Black and Tan's are traditionally made with guinness and Bass. They are not named due to the colors they exhibit. They are named because when the English invaded Ireland they wore uniforms that were Black and Tan in color. they imported Bass Ale and mixed it with the Irish classic Guinness. You WILL NEVER catch an Irishman drinking Bass. They make their Black and Tan's with guinness and Smithwicks. Smithwick's is bottled by the Guinness Company and was first brewed in 1376!!!! It is Ireland's Oldest Surviving Beer Recipe. So, sorry. this drink is wrong. Ask your bartender for a Black and Tan and he'll serve you Stout and Ale. Not Stout and Lager. waltponce (326 days ago)

bubble I agree. It wouldn't be a proper Black and Tan if it wasn't made with Bass and Guinness. Cleasai (780 days ago)
